Connect with your local nursing union. Encrypted (and optionally self-deleting) messages from leadership, RSVPable rallies + meetings, anonymous strike-authorization + ratification polls, Know Your Rights references, steward inbox for staffing / safety / contract issues.

Union communication today runs through 1990s-era email lists, paper flyers in the break room, and the occasional Facebook group. Members miss rally announcements, strike-authorization windows close before everyone hears about them, and the steward inbox is a phone tree. Meanwhile management has Slack.

Unionize gives verified union officers a direct, encrypted line to their members. Built with input from the founding RN’s contacts at NNU, NYSNA, and CNA. The clinical team reviewed the privacy posture specifically because labor-organizing communication has to be defensible against subpoena + management surveillance.

What RN PocketPal does

  • Encrypted messaging.Per-cohort symmetric keys with X25519 ECDH between the union’s signing key + each member’s device-bound key. Auto- delete ("fade-after 2h/24h/7d/30d") for strike-vote-style notices.
  • RSVP-able events. Rallies, picket lines, town halls, member meetings, trainings. Members RSVP locally; admin sees aggregate counts, never per- member identity at message-read level.
  • Anonymous polls. Strike authorization, contract ratification, leadership election. Blind-signature scheme — the union proves a member voted without learning what they voted.
  • Know Your Rights references. Weingarten rights, OSHA complaints, NLRA §7 protections. Reviewed by labor counsel.
  • Steward inbox. Members file staffing concerns, safety issues, contract violations. Optional anonymous submission for vulnerable units. PHI auto- scrubbed before save.
  • Verified officers only. Union admins self-attest with their LM-2 filing number; backend cross-checks against the OLMS public database before unlocking compose tools.

Who it’s for

Members of US nursing unions (NNU, CNA/NNOC, NYSNA, MNA-MA, MNA-MN, WSNA, ONA, SEIU 1199, PASNAP, MNA, ANA chapters with bargaining locals). Verified officers + stewards get the admin console; rank-and-file members get the read-only experience.

Frequently asked questions

Is RN PocketPal a union?
No. We're a software tool that lets unions communicate more easily with their members. Each union runs its own account; we don't pick sides between unions.
Can management see member messages?
No. Messages are encrypted end-to-end with per-cohort keys. The Worker forwards opaque ciphertext; the cleartext only decrypts on member devices. (v1 ships with informational lock badges + the encryption mechanism; full E2E lands with the v1.x backend.)
How does a union get on the platform?
Officer sign-up flow at /admin (in-app). $20/mo per union, billed via Stripe (outside Apple/Google IAP since labor accounts are exempt). Includes member messaging, events, polls, Know Your Rights publishing, steward inbox.
What about non-union nurses?
Unionize is read-only browsing for non-members — you can see which unions represent which hospitals, browse the directory, read Know Your Rights content. You won't see member-only messages or polls.
