RN PocketPal is an educational reference and clinical decision-support tool for licensed and unlicensed nursing personnel and nursing students. It is not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease or condition.

What this means

• Output from RN PocketPal — including Rhythm Practice, drip and dose calculators, lab reference values, and IV compatibility checker — is for educational reference only.
• RN PocketPal does not replace clinical judgment, prescriber orders, facility policy, or approved drug and clinical references.
• Always verify findings independently before acting on them at the bedside. Pump programming, prescribed orders, and your facility’s drug library are the source of truth.
• For high-alert medications (insulin, heparin, vasoactives, opioids, chemotherapeutics, and others), independent double-check at the bedside is non-negotiable regardless of what any reference tool — including RN PocketPal — says.

Rhythm Practice specifically

Rhythm Practice is study material: identification drills and BLS/ACLS/PALS action questions on known-answer teaching strips, scripted mega-code scenarios, and a free rhythm atlas. It does not read, interpret, or diagnose any cardiac rhythm. It does not evaluate a monitor, a printed strip from your unit, or any real patient. Always verify with calipers, with a 12-lead ECG when indicated, and with your clinical judgment.

The photo-based Rhythm Reader was withdrawn in August 2026 because its classifier could not meet the accuracy standard we set for it. Nothing in RN PocketPal now names a rhythm from an image, scores one, or reports PR, QRS, QT, or QTc measurements.

About the Compare view. Compare places a photo of your own strip beside a reference strip so you can look at the two yourself. It does not analyse, measure, score, or name what you captured, and the side-by-side is not a second opinion. Treat it as a reference image, not a finding. Always verify with calipers, a 12-lead ECG when indicated, the patient’s full clinical picture, and your facility’s protocols before acting.

AI and submitted content

AI-assisted tools, Marketplace, Connect, Unionize, support, facility-rating suggestions, and optional rhythm-strip contribution are not approved channels for clinical care, charting, handoff, secure messaging, or patient-specific communication. Do not submit PHI or patient-identifying information to any cloud-backed feature.

Regulatory framing

RN PocketPal is positioned within FDA’s Clinical Decision Support guidance (September 2022) as educational decision-support and is not a regulated medical device in v1.0. If we ever pursue FDA Software-as-a-Medical-Device (SaMD) clearance for any feature, that feature’s framing on this page will be updated accordingly, and the clearance will be visibly cited.

RN PocketPal is a tool for clinicians and clinical trainees. It is not a patient-facing app. If you are a patient with a clinical concern, please consult your clinician or call your facility’s established channels.
