The NCLEX-RN is the licensure exam for entry-level registered nurses, developed by NCSBN. It is a computerized adaptive test of 85 to 150 items with a five-hour limit, built on the 2026 test plan’s eight Client Needs areas. A minimum-length exam includes three six-item case studies that measure clinical judgment, and every exam has 15 unscored pretest items.
