Nursing documentation tools: Note Writer has been retired
On October 29, 2026 we retired Note Writer, along with the other app tools that took patient details. RN PocketPal is a study app now. It doesn't draft notes for a patient record. Here is what is still available.
What are nursing documentation tools?
The official nursing record is your facility’s EHR, and how you chart is set by facility policy. Nursing documentation tools are everything that helps around it: a brain sheet or report sheet to keep your shift organized on paper, a solid grasp of the common note formats (DAR, SOAP, SOAPIE, PIE, narrative, focused), and the medical terminology to say exactly what you saw.
Note Writer used AI to turn a nurse’s description of an event into a draft note. We stopped that because a study app shouldn’t sit between a nurse and the patient record. The AI drafting step is switched off on our server, and the tile is gone from the latest version of the app. Anything you had saved on your phone was not deleted by this change.
What RN PocketPal does
- A printable brain sheet. Build one in the browser with the brain sheet maker (no signup, nothing saved), or download the free printable brain sheet with a 4-patient grid. Fill it in by hand and keep it with you, not online.
- Brain sheet vs. report sheet. Our guide to the difference between a brain sheet and a report sheet and when each one helps.
- Terminology. Look up a term in the medical dictionary when you want the precise word.
- Study. Management-of-care topics like prioritization and delegation come up on the exam. Practice them with NCLEX prep.
Who it’s for
Nurses and nursing students who used Note Writer, or who are looking for nursing documentation tools. For the note itself, follow your facility’s policy and chart in the EHR. Please don’t enter patient details into RN PocketPal.

- No. We retired Note Writer on October 29, 2026. Its AI requests are switched off on our server and the tile is gone from the latest version of the app.
- Does RN PocketPal write nursing notes or chart for me?
- No. RN PocketPal is a study app. It does not draft documentation for a patient record or make clinical decisions. Your facility EHR is the record, and your facility policy decides how you chart.
- What happened to notes I saved in Note Writer?
- Retiring the tool did not delete anything stored on your phone. Saved items stay on the device until you remove them or delete the app.
