Nursing care plans: the Care Plan builder has been retired
On October 29, 2026 we retired the Care Plan builder, along with the other app tools that took patient details. RN PocketPal is a study app now. It doesn't write care plans from a patient scenario. Here is what is still available.
What is a nursing care plan?
A nursing care plan follows the nursing process: assess, name the nursing diagnoses your assessment supports, set measurable goals, choose interventions with a rationale, and evaluate. In school it is a graded assignment, and your program’s template decides the format. On the unit, the plan of care lives in your facility’s EHR.
The Care Plan builder used AI to turn a patient scenario, assessment findings, vitals and labs into a draft plan. We stopped that because a study app shouldn’t take patient details or draft a plan of care. The AI step is switched off on our server, and the tile is gone from the latest version of the app. Anything you had saved on your phone was not deleted by this change.
What RN PocketPal does
- A student brain sheet. The brain sheet maker has a Student Clinical layout with rows for pathophysiology, meds with the why, labs with their meaning, nursing priorities and SBAR practice. It runs in the browser, saves nothing and prints blank. You fill it in by hand.
- Lab values. Check normal ranges in the lab reference values when you work out what an abnormal result means.
- Study. Prioritization and delegation come up on the exam. Review them in the NCLEX cheat sheets and practice with NCLEX prep.
Who it’s for
Nursing students and nurses who used the Care Plan builder, or who are looking for help with care plans. Write the plan yourself in your program’s template, and check your school’s policy on AI tools. Please don’t enter patient details into RN PocketPal.

- Does RN PocketPal write care plans?
- No. RN PocketPal is a study app. It does not draft care plans or make clinical decisions. In school, your program’s template is the standard. On the unit, the plan of care is in your facility EHR.
- What happened to care plans I saved in the app?
- Retiring the tool did not delete anything stored on your phone. Saved items stay on the device until you remove them or delete the app.
