CE is one way to renew in Florida: 24 contact hours every 2 years. The other routes are listed below.

Other ways to renew

  • Nurses certified by an NCCA- or ABSNC-accredited specialty program are exempt from CE, except the 2 h human trafficking course

Required topics

  • 2 h prevention of medical errors (every renewal)
  • 2 h Florida laws and rules (every renewal)
  • 2 h human trafficking (every renewal)
  • 2 h recognizing impairment in the workplace (every other renewal)
  • 2 h domestic violence (every third renewal, in addition to the 24 h)
  • 1 h HIV/AIDS (once, before first renewal)

Good to know

First renewal after licensure by exam: the general hours are waived, but you still need 2 h medical errors, 2 h laws and rules, 2 h impairment, 2 h human trafficking and 1 h HIV/AIDS. A license held under 24 months otherwise needs 1 h per month held.
