A reward system that doesn't get weird.
Care Coins are a local-only reward system. Earn for daily streaks, accepted suggestions, contributed rhythm strips, and other small wins. Spend on themed memory decks, streak shields, and (later) Marketplace perks. No real money. No leaderboards. No farming.
Reward systems in apps usually skew toward dark-pattern territory: streaks designed to extract login behavior, leaderboards that turn solo work into competition, real- money currency that bait-and-switches into IAP. We didn’t want that.
Care Coins are local-only, capped per-week and per-month so nobody can grind, and they spend on cosmetic + study utility rather than core functionality. The clinical team specifically rejected the "earn coins to unlock real features" pattern.

- Local-only ledger. Every earn / spend is an append-only row on your device. No cloud sync today; opt-in sync arrives with v1.x accounts so you keep your balance across devices.
- Caps prevent grinding. Per-week and per-month caps on every earn reason. The daily-suggestion path is capped at 50 coins total to catch the obvious farming pattern.
- Never gates core features.Care Coins buy cosmetic stuff. The actual clinical tools — calculators, brain sheet, rhythm reader, AI assistants — are subscription-gated where they’re gated, not coin-gated.
Who it’s for
Every nurse using the app. The system rewards engagement with the tools that already help your day. If you don’t care about the coins, you can ignore them entirely — they don’t affect any clinical feature.

Frequently asked questions
- Can Care Coins pay for my subscription?
- Not directly — that's an Apple / Google IAP rule. Care Coins can be redeemed for Apple/Google promotional offers (discount on renewal) in a future phase, which is the IAP-compliant path.
- Will there be leaderboards?
- No. Leaderboards turn a personal reward into social pressure. The clinical team explicitly rejected this.
- What happens to my coins if I delete the app?
- Today they're local-only, so they're gone. Account-sync (v1.x) preserves balances across installs once you sign in.
