Nursing is lonely in a particular way. You spend 12 hours with people who won’t remember you next month, then go home to a partner who can’t relate to anything you saw. Veteran nurses talk about how they used to grab dinner with co-workers after shift; new grads don’t even know where to find peers outside their own unit. The nursing-specific social tools today are either dating (no thanks) or LinkedIn (too professional).
Friend Finder is RN-verified, cross-facility by default, and explicitly not a dating app. The clinical team specifically reviewed the matching algorithm to optimize for "find a study partner / mentor / brunch crew" over engagement-driving patterns.
What RN PocketPal does
- Verified RN profiles only. License-check at signup (deferred to v1.x backend); same-facility matches require opt-in to limit workplace overlap.
- Cross-facility default. Most matches come from nurses in your specialty + your region but a different facility. Less awkward.
- Intent filters. Mentorship · study partner · networking · friendly connection · brunch crew. Match where intents align.
- Interest tags.Hobbies, specialty, shift preference. Helps match beyond "we’re both nurses."
- Photo verification. Optional (deferred). When backend lands, photos verified for "this is the actual nurse" before public surfacing.
- Anti-dating posture. Profile prompts + match copy explicitly de-emphasize dating framing. Reported abuse → ban + re-verification.

New grads building peer networks, RNs at small facilities without much peer community, traveling nurses landing in unfamiliar cities, and any nurse who wants peers without the LinkedIn / dating-app baggage.

Frequently asked questions
- Is this a dating app?
- No. Verified RN-only and explicitly de-emphasizes dating framing. Abuse reports are reviewed; users who treat it as a dating app are removed.
- Can my manager see my profile?
- Only if you opt into same-facility matching. The default is cross-facility-only, which is the explicit answer to "I don't want my charge nurse seeing this."
- When does verification go live?
- License-check verification lands with the v1.x backend (~3 months after iOS launch). Before then, Friend Finder runs in mock-data demo mode with a clear "demo only" banner.
