THE SHORT ANSWER
What is a direct-entry BSN program?
A direct-admit (or direct-entry) BSN program accepts you into the nursing major straight from high school, so you don't have to compete for a nursing seat after your first year of college. Most programs still set grades and courses you must meet in college to keep that seat.
- Ohio State (Columbus): who can applyUndergraduate admissions calls this direct admission. Apply as a nursing applicant by the early action deadline (Nov. 1, 2026 for autumn 2027). Listed requirements include a top-10% class rank, a strong high school math record and an ACT Math score of 26 (SAT Math 610), plus admission to Columbus as a pre-nursing student
- Ohio State: keeping your seatOnce you enroll, the College of Nursing calls it the Direct Enrollment Pathway for BSN. To keep it, complete 30 credit hours, a 3.2 or higher Ohio State GPA and the seven BSN prerequisites at C+ or better (B or better from a school without +/- grades) by the end of your first spring semester. A one-year extension is permitted
- Penn State: General BSNFirst-year applicants apply for direct admission to one of seven campuses: Altoona, Behrend, Fayette, Mont Alto, Schuylkill, Scranton or University Park
- Penn State: know firstYou start and stay at your admitting campus for all four years. University Park is direct admission only; it doesn't take transfer or change-of-major students
- "Direct entry" is also used for graduate programs for people who already hold a non-nursing bachelor's degree, so check which kind a school means
